ELEMENTARY PROGRAMS (Kindergarten – 5th Grades)

Sunday Program:  Our Sunday program meets weekly, 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm.  Each grade level is led by a trained, volunteer Catechist.

Wednesday Program:  Our Wednesday program meets weekly, 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm.  Each grade level is led by a trained, volunteer Catechist.

Home Study:  Realizing that some families may not be able to attend either of the above options, St. Mary’s offers a Home Study option where parents teach their children at home.  Parents are given an “At Home Parent Guide” which guides them in do the lessons in the textbook.  More detailed information is provided at the orientation/book pick up.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS (Grade 6 - 8)

Sunday Program: All grades meet on select Sundays in separate grade gatherings, 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm.  materials include a video catechism program from the Diocese of Wheeling/Charleston with supplements from various sources.  Sessions are led by youth ministry/catechist teams.

Home Study Program: This option uses the same video platform with an online discussion guide.  Additionally, there are 4 youth group nights open to all middle school age youth.

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS (Grades 9)

Sunday Night Program: 9th grade youth meet on select Sunday evenings from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, starting with dinner.  Materials include the Youth Alpha Series video platform with various supplements.  Sessions are led by youth ministers or youth ministry catechist teams.

Home Study Program: This option uses the same video platform with an online discussion guide.

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS (Grades 10 and above)

Sunday Night Program: Youth in grades 10 and above meet on select Sunday evenings from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, starting with dinner.  Materials include portions of Dynamic Catholic's Decision Point series.  Sessions are led by youth ministers or youth ministry catechist teams.

Home Study Program: This option use the same Dynamic Catholic platform with a discussion guide.

FIRST RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) AND FIRST EUCHARIST (COMMUNION)
for Elementary aged children, grades 2-5

Preparation for First Reconciliation (Confession) and Eucharist (Communion) is open to all children in the 2nd grade and above.  St. Mary’s preparation program consists of both “at church” workshops for both Parents and children as well as “at home” textbook work.  Parents play an integral role in the preparation of their child and therefore must be willing to participate fully.  There are 5 Parent/Child workshops and weekly “homework” that parents and children work on together.  There is also a simple service component incorporated into this process.  We celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the winter and First Eucharist in the spring.

The following are required to participate:

  • Families must be registered members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
  • Children must be enrolled in Faith Formation or a Catholic School in addition to the Sacrament preparation program.
  • Children must have been baptized Roman Catholic – Baptismal certificate is required for those not baptized at St. Mary’s Church.
  • Families should be regularly attending weekly Mass.

FIRST RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) AND FIRST EUCHARIST (COMMUNION)
for Older Children in Middle or High School

Preparation for First Reconciliation (Confession) and Eucharist (Communion) is open to older children.  St. Mary’s preparation program consists of both “at church” preparation sessions for older children (with our Youth Ministers) as well as “at home” work.  Families (Parents) may participate in our program for younger elementary children which includes an adult formation portion.  We celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Lent and First Eucharist in the springtime.

The following are required to participate:

  • Families must be registered members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
  • Children must be enrolled in Faith Formation or a Catholic School in addition to the Sacrament preparation program.
  • Children must have been baptized Roman Catholic – Baptismal certificate is required for those not baptized at St. Mary’s Church.
  • Families should be regularly attending weekly Mass.

YOUTH CONFIRMATION (typically 10th Grade)

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is open to all baptized young people entering grades 10-12, who desire to complete their Christian Initiation. Our Diocese has specific guidelines regarding Confirmation Preparation, which include a series of gathered preparation sessions (on 6 select Sundays from 2:30pm -4:30pm), a one-day group retreat, some preparation to be done with selected sponsor on your own, and either enrollment in grade level faith formation or attendance of a Catholic School. We will incorporate some Dynamic Catholic Decision Point materials. Home study is not available for Confirmation Preparation.

The following are required to participate:

  • Teen must be baptized Roman Catholic - baptismal certificate is required for those not baptized at St. Mary's Church.
  • Families must be registered members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
  • Teen must be enrolled in regular concurrent Faith Formation or a Catholic School in addition to Sacrament Preparation.
  • Families should be regularly attending weekly Mass.

 2019-2020 Faith Formation | Youth Ministry Registration Fees**

The registration fee for all Elementary, Middle School and High School programs is $30 per child/youth.

2019-2020 Sacrament Preparation Fees**

Although we do not “charge” for Sacraments, we do ask for help in covering the costs of our preparation materials and supplies.

First Reconciliation & Eucharist: $50 per person
Confirmation Preparation: $50 per person

**Please Note:  No one will ever be denied participation in Faith Formation programs or Sacrament preparation due to inability to pay.  Simply contact the Director of Christian Formation or Youth Ministers to have fees waived or discounted.
