A Gospel-based partnership that is transforming Richmond one student at a time!
Saint Mary’s has a long history of reaching out to our neighbors throughout the greater Richmond area, serving our brothers and sisters of every race, language and faith tradition. This outreach flows from our commitment to the Gospel. We trust Jesus, who said: “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40).
Over the years, the parishioners of Saint Mary’s Church have generously supported the ministry of Saint Mary’s School. Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners, we will continue to offer extensive financial support to Saint Mary’s School, including expanded scholarship funds. In addition to this support for our elementary school, the parish is now in a position to offer important financial support to the students who attend Cristo Rey High School.
For the 2020-2021 academic year, Saint Mary’s Parish is participating in a partnership opportunity with Cristo Rey. Our parish has made a gift of $34,000 to Cristo Rey for this school year, and we have already made a commitment to provide a similar gift next year. This kind of gift provides crucial financial support to the students of Cristo Rey, enabling them to receive an outstanding, college-preparatory education. This year, the funds will support the students working at the offices of Commonwealth Catholic Charities. According to the mission statement of the school,
Cristo Rey Richmond High School is a Catholic learning community that educates young people of limited economic means to become men and women of faith, purpose and service. Through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a relevant work study experience, students graduate ready to succeed in college and in life.
This partnership between Saint Mary’s Church and Cristo Rey Richmond High School is an important aspect of our parish’s commitment to transform the lives of all of our neighbors. This kind of outreach is made possible by the ongoing generosity of our parishioners.
