Faith Formation General Information

General Information about our 2017-2018 programs.

We are in need of Elementary Catechists, Children's Liturgy of the Word Prayer Leaders, and Middle School (7th & 8th grade) Core Team Members.

ELEMENTARY PROGRAMS (Kindergarten – 5th Grades)

Sunday Program:  Our Sunday program meets weekly, 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm.  Each grade level is led by a trained Catechist.

Wednesday Program:  Our Wednesday program meets weekly, 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm.  Each grade level is led by a trained Catechist.

Home Study:  Realizing that some families may not be able to attend either of the above options, St. Mary’s offers a Home Study option where parents teach their children at home.  Parents are given an “At Home Parent Guide” which guides them in do the lessons in the textbook.  More detailed information is provided at the orientation/book pick up.

MIDDLE SCHOOL "BRIDGE" PROGRAM (Grade 6)

Sunday Program: Our Sunday program meets weekly, 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm.  Led by a trained Catechist.

Home Study Program: For middle school youth who cannot attend the Sunday Program, this non-gathered option gives parents and teens the resources to engage in a home-based catechetical program on a schedule that works for them. The parent is the catechist, and currently utilizes The Catholic Connections Handbook by St. Mary's Press.  More detailed information is provided at the orientation/book pick up.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAMS (Grades 7 - 8)

Sunday Night Program:  This gathered formation program meets scheduled Sunday evenings throughout the school year from 6-8 pm.  Gatherings incorporate a mix of community bonding activities, catechesis, faith-sharing, prayer opportunities, and more.  The program is lead by a team of adult volunteer leaders, and currently utilizes Life Teen's EDGE curricula.

Home Study Program:  For middle school youth who cannot attend the Sunday Program, this non-gathered option gives parents and teens the resources to engage in a home-based catechetical program on a schedule that works for them. The parent is the catechist, and currently utilizes The Catholic Connections Handbook by St. Mary's Press.  More detailed information is provided at the orientation/book pick up.

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS (Grades 9 – 12)

Sunday Night Program: This gathered formation program scheduled Sunday evenings throughout the school year from 6–8 p.m.  Gatherings incorporate a mix of community bonding activities, catechesis, faith-sharing, prayer opportunities, and more . The program is led by a team of adult volunteer leaders, and currently utilizes Life Teen's curricula.

Sunday Lunch:  This gathered opportunity (for confirmed teens, Grades 11 & 12), meets on scheduled Sundays after the 11am Mass throughout the school year to share Christian community, faith, and fellowship.

Home Study Program: For high school youth who cannot attend the Sunday Night Program, this non-gathered option gives parents and teens the resources to engage in a home-based catechetical program on a schedule that works for them. The parent is the catechist.  More detailed information is provided at the orientation/book pick up.

FIRST RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION) AND FIRST EUCHARIST (COMMUNION)

Preparation for First Reconciliation and Eucharist is open to all children in the 2nd grade and above.  St. Mary’s preparation program consists of both “at church” workshops for both Parents and children as well as “at home” textbook work.  Parents play an integral role in the preparation of their child and therefore must be willing to participate fully.  We celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the winter and First Eucharist in the spring.

The following are required to participate:

  • Families must be registered members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
  • Children must be enrolled in Faith Formation or a Catholic School in addition to the Sacrament preparation program.
  • Children must have been baptized Roman Catholic – Baptismal certificate is required for those not baptized at St. Mary’s Church.
  • Families should be regularly attending weekly Mass.

YOUTH CONFIRMATION (typically 10th Grade)

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is open to all baptized young people entering the 10th – 12th grades who desire to complete their Christian Initiation. Our Diocese has specific guidelines regarding Confirmation Preparation, including a series of gathered preparation sessions, a required group retreat, and some preparation to be done at home. Preparation will begin with the required Confirmation Retreat on Saturday, November 19 - 9:00 am - 6:30 pm at St. Mary's.  Specific preparation sessions will follow on scheduled Sunday afternoons, 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm in January, February, March and April.

The following are required to participate:

  • Teen must be baptized Roman Catholic - baptismal certificate is required for those not baptized at St. Mary's Church.
  • Families must be registered members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
  • Teen must be enrolled in regular concurrent Faith Formation or a Catholic School in addition to Sacrament Preparation.
  • Families should be regularly attending weekly Mass.

 2017-2018 Faith Formation | Youth Ministry Registration Fees**

The registration fee for all Elementary, Middle School and High School programs is$30 per child/youth.

2017-2018 Sacrament Preparation Fees**

Although we do not “charge” for Sacraments, we do ask for help in covering the costs of our preparation materials and supplies.

First Reconciliation & Eucharist: $50 per person
Confirmation Preparation: $50 per person

**Please Note:  No one will ever be denied participation in Christian Formation programs or Sacrament preparation due to inability to pay.
