A Catholic look at the week's biggest movie. Pope Benedict XVI has said that those "... who are exposed to what is aesthetically and morally excellent are helped to develop appreciation, prudence and the skills of discernment." We aim to give honest and intelligent reviews that recognize the spiritual impact of film on the soul.

What is Life Teen?
Life Teen is an international Catholic organization dedicated to leading teens closer to Christ through the sacraments, prayer, and community. St. Mary's is now one of the parishes involved in this Youth Ministry movement.
The Mission Statement of the Life Teen Movement is: "Life Teen is an international Catholic movement that serves the Church by providing resources and faith experiences that help lead teens closer to Christ. This is accomplished through a vibrant Eucharistic spirituality and by creating opportunities for teens to grow in their faith."
Life Teen is a movement. The following is taken from the Life Teen website - www.lifeteen.com. "At the core of Life Teen, you find a spirituality to lead teens closer to Christ that is driven by the Holy Spirit. It is through Christ, with Christ and in Christ that we do all things and give all glory to God. As a movement in the Church, we are guided by the teachings of Christ, His holy Word and His precious Body and Blood. Our entire ministry is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary so that we may be led to the feet of her son with the obedience she exemplified.
On May 26, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI addressed representatives of ecclesial movements with this salutation:
The movements you belong to are many. You are nourished by different schools of spirituality recognized by the Church. Draw upon the wisdom of the saints, have recourse to the heritage they have left us. Form your minds and your hearts on the works of the great masters and witnesses of the faith, knowing that the schools of spirituality must not be a treasure locked up in monastic libraries. The Gospel wisdom, contained in the writings of the great saints and attested to in their lives, must be brought in a mature way, not childishly or aggressively, to the world of culture and work, to the world of the media and politics, to the world of family and social life.

Parent Life
Leading Parents Closer to Christ! Parent Life is a ministry within the Life Teen movement. This important ministry is dedicated & geared to the parents of teens and middle school youth. It is designed to give parents an opportunity to support their parish ministry programs while strengthening their own relationship with Christ and His Church.
Modeled after Life Teen's Life Nights, the 12 Parent Life gatherings seek to build community and strengthen the faith of parents. These Parent Life gatherings can be adapted and used in a weekly, monthly or quarterly timeframe.
At this time, St. Mary's does not have a Parent Life group. We would like to begin one in 2010. If anyone is interested in helping to organize this program, please contact John Sweet, Director of Christian Formation and Youth - jsweet@stmarysrichmond.org.

Adults/Parents Life Teen Support
Any ministry within the Church is only successful when the faith community is involved, active and committed. This is especially true in Youth Ministry. What we are able to offer and what events we are able to run is dependent on volunteers to help make it work. There are many opportunities for people to get involved and help our Youth Ministry continue to grow and be successful.
Below you will find a variety of volunteer opportunities to become involved in. Please take some time to pray and see how you can be of help.
Life Teen Core Team - This team is the foundation of the Life Teen Ministry. This group plans and runs the Life Nights. Commitment is two Sunday evenings per month. On the 3rd Sunday, the team gathers 1 ½ hours prior to the Life Night to plan upcoming evenings.
Life Teen Core Assistants - This group of adults are a part of the Core Team, but do not have to plan. Each assistant is assigned to a Core Team Member and helps leads small group activities and discussion. No large group leading involved.
Life Teen "Extra Hands" - These adults are not part of the Core Team, but are present at Life Nights and Edge to help where needed.
Life Teen Dinner Team - Coordinating team to help provide dinner for our Youth Groups when they meet on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
Life Teen Service Project Team - This group gathers to plan service/outreach events for High School youth, working in conjunction with our Human Concerns office. This team will decide when it meets and how many events to offer throughout the year.
Life Teen Social Event Team - This group gathers to plan social events and outings for High School youth to provide the opportunity for fun and fellowship. This team will decide when it meets and how many events to offer throughout the year.
To "sign up" to help or for more information about any of the above opportunities, please contact John Sweet, Director of Christian Formation and Youth.
PLEASE NOTE: All adults must be screened and trained according to the policies of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond. Please go here to learn more about this process. No adult can help in the area of youth ministry without being screened and trained.
